MWB/LB-156 : Ballistic Range Design & Operation The purpose of this course is to describe several different Ballistic Range
Designs and their Operation. There are in existence indoor, outdoor and
Ballistic Ranges for all types of Testing and Research and Development. The
intent is to cover the many different type of facilities, their capabilities,
limitations and Operational conditions. Various Types of Ballistic Range facilities, their design, their capabilities
and their operation will be discussed, along with the type of data that can be
collected and techniques for a safe and efficient operation.
* Ballistic Range Designs incorporating: ease of obtaining materials for testing; security of storage and Range Facilities; access to emergency equipment and personnel; practiced malfunction and evacuation plans; Standard Operating Procedures; awareness of weather conditions for large caliber and high explosives testing; neighbor awareness, etc.
* Various Types of Testing: Proof Testing; Research & Development Testing; Test & Evaluation: Live Fire Testing; First Article Testing; Acceptance Testing; Destructive Testing; Non-Destructive Testing;
* Gun Testing: Small Caliber; Cannon Caliber; Large Caliber; 16 inch rifles and beyond
* Ammunition Testing: Ball; Trace; Armor Piercing; Discarding Sabot Types; Non-Discarding Sabot types
